Armament:
- Double turbolasers: 8. Four of these are located on the 'shoulder', while two more are located on each of the 'wings' paired up with one tractor beam projector apiece. They are able to engage the forward arcs, and six are able to engage to each side.
Marauders detailed to system defense and law enforcement replace the four turbolasers on the wings with heavy ion cannons. - Tractor beam projectors: 3. The Marauder has very accurate tractor beam projectors, surprisingly powerful and quick for the ship's size, enabling it to capture targets with minimal damage to them - as well as recover escape pods and damaged starfighters. One is on each wing, with another on the underside of the ship.
- Diamond-boron missile launchers: 4, 30 missiles apiece. Located on the underside of the ship's rear section, they carry powerful diamond-boron warheads, heavily-armored missiles capable of destroying everything within a five hundred meter radius. They can be guided in through either pre-programmed targets, proximity detonation, target proximity detonation (requiring a certain number of targets within a given proximity), or command-guided into their targets. The mainstay of the Marauder Mk IV's arsenal, the diamond-boron missiles enable it to engage both capital ships and starfighters with surprising lethality for a ship its size.
The launchers are capable of taking concussion missiles as well, given that diamond-boron missiles are spectacularly expensive. - Point-defense laser turrets: 12. Located two to a facing, these turrets protect the corvette from enemy fighters and missiles.
Defensive Systems:
- Deflector shields: The class is equipped with robust ray shielding. It has regenerative shields thanks to the quadruple-redundant shield generators, but unlike Mon Calamari designs it has only a handful of generators rather than dozens.
- Dedicated Energy Receptor Projector: The DERP works by absorbing and blocking incoming long-range sensor pings and transmissions broadcast by enemy ships, rendering the Marauder invisible to most enemy scanners, targeting computers, and incoming missiles.
- Full-Spectrum Distortion Projector: This component of the Marauder's electronic countermeasures attempts to block all scanners and targeting computers by using broadband transmitters intended to interfere with sensors attempting to target it. While more powerful than the DERP, it is shorter-ranged. Marauders operating in concert with each other and allied ships have a system of exceptions that, while exceptionally difficult to exploit, enable them to communicate and function normally.
- Missile Deactivation Transmitter: These transmitters, as their name suggests, are able to detect the guiding frequencies used by enemy missiles and warheads. They are capable of autonomously sending a signal to deactivate the projectiles before damaging the Marauder.
Carried Craft:
- Starfighters: 12. The type of starfighter carried varies by the mission, but most carry R-25 Rogue-class or similar starfighter suited to patrol, space superiority, and interception missions. The fighters launch from the bay below the bridge module.
- Shuttles: 2. They type of shuttle carried - whether they be troop, assault, cargo, or another variety - varies by the mission. The shuttles launch from the same bay as the fighters.
Other Systems:
- Navigation computer: The Marauder Mk IV has a standard navigation computer capable of calculating hyperspace jumps and conducting routine astrogation.
- Sensor suite: The Marauder Mk IV has a long-ranged multi-spectrum sensor suite capable of passive and active function.
- Targeting computer suite: The Marauder Mk IV has a sophisticated targeting suite capable of tracking and engaging even the smallest of targets moving at high speeds as befits a corvette designed to engage starfighters. Each gunnery station has its own targeting computer, and while the point-defense guns are accurate only out for a few hundred kilometers the main guns can engage targets quite far away - the diamond-boron missiles being capable of engaging targets clear on the other side of a star system.
- HoloNet transceiver: Like many capital ships, the Marauder Mk IV is equipped with HoloNet transceivers capable of extremely high-density data transmission across the galaxy in seconds rather than years.
- Medical bays: The medical bays aboard ships of this class are outfitted with batch tanks, medical droids, and treatment wards. They can handle up to forty patients at a time in the primary bay, and each of the main areas (bridge, mess hall, hangar bay, etc) have minor bays capable of treating eight patients on their beds.
- HIMS: The Hyperwave Inertial Momentum Sustainer technology enables the Marauder Mk IV to counteract an interdiction field. A gravitic anomaly sensor in the system provides the ship's hyperdrive the ability to shut off, preventing damage from sudden realspace reversion upon encountering a gravity well. At the same time, the HIMS can produce a static hyperspace "bubble", sustaining the ship's presence in hyperspace while accumulated forward momentum propelled it along. While the HIMS can only keep the Marauder Mk IV in hyperspace briefly, it is sufficient to pass through most any interdiction fields.
Description: Like its ancient predecessor, the Marauder Mk IV is designed as a pocket cruiser. It carries surprising firepower for its size as well as having the capability to serve as the mother ship for a starfighter squadron operating on patrols away from the fleet. The Marauder can also carry about two platoon's worth of troopers, and has the supplies to last for extended patrols. In the Alliance military, they are typically paired up with larger mother ships (such as the Traquia-class Super Star Defender) to provide them extended endurance and interdictors to operate on blockade duties. Marauders are commonly found functioning as patrol ships, a role their sturdy shielding, resilient armor plating, high sublight speeds and heavy firepower allows them to excel in.
While originally a Sienar design, the Galactic Alliance seized the designs and licensed them out to Corellian Engineering Corporation and TransGalMeg Industries. The Corporate Sector Authority produces them on license from Sienar, while the Sith produce their own. The Marauder is one of the more common ships in the galaxy, and many have even made their way into civilian hands.
