History: Balac has a very strange history, indeed. A group of idealistic students from the Core located what was only known as Body-459815-46O, and determinedly set out to use their combined inheritances to terraform what was then a barren wasteland into an utopian paradise. They were unable to complete this ludicrous task. However, their actions set in motion climate change that in several centuries later would result in a planet that could support life. The air was rapidly being restored to an oxygen-based environment, and simple grasses began to sprout.
Located on the edge of the Meerian and Mandalore sector boundary, the Mandalorians moved decisively as soon as scouts uncovered this valuable information. Preliminary settlers made their home on the peaceful world, free to live without fear of native beasts attacking or unwanted traffic, as the world was still kept off of the "hospital worlds" list. However, they were not alone. Corporations sent scientific teams to speed this terraforming process quicker, replacing the CO2 that dominated the atmosphere with Oxygen, with plans to turn the small world into a vacation world, with its unpolluted environment and crystal clear waters.
The Mandalorians were regarded as primitive and kindly acknowledged but ignored. These ill-informed Core Worlds corporations assumed the Mandalorians, at the time well-known to be in decline and fractured, to submit themselves to corporate law - or if not, to mercenary and security forces. Of course, the Mandalorians wouldn't give up their homes. They fought back fiercely, and forced these corporations to sign a compromise treaty. The Mandalorians would retain their living spaces, but allow the corporations to build their vacation cities, with clearly defined stretches of land for each camp.
This system lasted less than a generation. The corporations were bought out by a large and powerful conglomerate, who was arrogant enough to intrude on Mandalorian land and regard them as a threat. A second war broke - except this time, Mandalorians from all over flocked to defend the overmatched clan against their easily demonized corporate foe. This Noble War was the closest unifying event before the Civil War. The conglomerate poured billions into a failed invasion, succumbing to Mandalorian resiliency and prowess.
The Mandalorians realized the potential of the almost completely finished vacation cities, and Clan Balac negotiated an agreement with an influential Outer Rim mechant's guild to develop the vacation hubs into glamorous cities for offworld commerce. Requiring a name for such a venture, the planet's number was replaced by the clan's name.
Now, the city has two major cities. The first is a port hub where spacers traveling the Hydian Way, Perlemian Trade Route, and Salin Corridor. The city of Port Waadas is a bustling hub of secure warehouses and an emerging shipbuilding industry (MandalMotors is pursuing a venture here). Numerous factories have also been built, and as a result the surrounding area around Port Waadas is quickly being polluted without any sort of regulatory oversight.
The second city, Waadasla, is a small center of towering buildings and urban sprawl that one would envision to be like Coruscant.
The Mandalorian settlements morphed into towns, and many ventured to the cities to do business - however, most eke out a fulfilling existence as farmers in the countryside.
The unique Mandalorian and Aruetiise nature of Balac made it a natural fit for Darasuum ideals. Since the group's birth, thousands of Darasuum Mandalorians have flocked to the world and effectively shaped it into their de facto capital. They dominate the two cities, and defend it against the loosely organized traditionalist farmers. Balac's industry is their source of manufactured goods and technology. They also reap the benefits of taxes from the spacers, as Balac has become a strategic stopover point in the Outer Rim due to its proximity to major trade conduits.
Waadasla
Waadasla Keldab overlooks the city and is where the Darasuum headquarters is located. Is a castle in all its meaning - rich, palace interior - exterior fortress.
