Miri pursed her lips thoughtfully, studying him, then shook her head. "Nope, really can't see you with a Hapan. Maybe one who played at being all sweet and demure, if she fooled you, but you're way too much a type-aurek for them. Plus, y'know, they're all so stuck-up and . . . stuff." She waved dismissively; Miri was not fond of the few Hapans of either gender she'd met, finding them entirely too political and manipulative. She didn't trust them or their royalty's interest in the Jedi Order. Though him being with a redhead was interesting - maybe he preferred that to blonde?
Miri choked when he dropped the line about guys having been interested in her. "Wish I would've known that," she mumbled, her cheeks coloring. The idea that a guy would find her attractive was a rather foreign one to the young Jedi. She'd been rather gangly and awkward through most of her childhood, being something of a late bloomer. She'd been quite lonely a lot of the time, at least when she saw other students pairing up.
The white-haired Jedi abruptly stood up, stifling a yawn. It was tough to tell if her yawn was feigned or not, though she had just gotten done with a long flight through hyperspace and finished a meal. "Sorry," she said with a sheepish smile. "Is there a bunk I can sleep in? Vong ships really aren't conducive towards relaxing on a flight, even if they are a lot of fun to fly."

"Yeah, sure -- second and third doors down from the cockpit, on both sides of the hall. Take your pick." Kelly stood up shortly after she did, grabbing the dirty dishes and adding them to the pile that was already in the sink.
"I'll clean these up then come to bed -- .. I mean, my bed.. .. I mean.. uhm, yeah."
Damn it! Kelly felt the redness flushing into his complexion as soon as the words left his lips. He turned away from Miri, turning the sink on and grabbing a steel fiber scrub to set to work on the dishes. Keller couldn't believe he just said that. He'd kept his composure in front of her all throughout the meal -- aside from almost choking -- but now he had to say something stupid like that? She probably didn't even notice what he had said the first time, and now he'd made the situation ten times more awkward, on top of his awkwardly abrupt switching of the subject twenty minutes earlier.
Kelly was certainly on a roll. preview

Miri smiled at the slip. "Well . . . I don't think I'd complain either way," she said suavely, then her cheeks turned bright red as her composure fell to embarrassment. "G'night!" she exclaimed before rushing out.
"I can't believe I just said that!" Miri fumed under her breath as she hustled down the corridor. He must think I'm a fuming slut! Well, she hadn't met many guys who'd complain about that, and he had said she was pretty . . . but still! She wasn't that kind of a girl! And she wasn't really all that interested in him, not really . . . it was just some stupid crush from back in school. He wasn't all that into her, anyhow, and he was an insensitive ass besides.
Miri glanced back down at the galley as she walked into the room on the right. She wasn't certain whether or not she hoped he'd come after her.
It became a moot point; Miri was asleep by the time she hit the covers.

Keller nearly dropped the dish on his foot when he heard the words. They stunned him like a concussion pistol: did she really say that? Was it a genuine invitation or mere jest? No: the Miri Dakaar he knew would have never said anything like that, in either context. So, then, why did she say it? Did she really mean it? Kelly found his arms in a foot of freezing cold water as the sink filled up without his noticing. A crude curse escaped his lips as he pulled his arms out of the sink, turning the valve to shut it off before it flooded the galley.
He grabbed a towel and quickly dried his hands off before exiting the galley, deciding that the dishes could wait. Kelly made a fast pace down the hallway, stopping at the room Miri had gone into.. he considered knocking, but she was probably already asleep, so he decided to save.. whatever he was going to say, for morning.
"Women," Kelly said under his breath as he walked into his room, closing the door behind him with a tendril of the Force. He collapsed into his bed, boots, belt and all, and drifted into blackness after ten minutes of staring at the ceiling.
---------- ---------- ----------
It was the first time in a week that Kelly had slept peacefully: without dreaming the dream about his sister. He rolled over, reaching over to his nightstand to activate the touchscreen there that was connected directly to the captain's console in the cockpit, allowing him to see the progression of many of the ship's vital systems without even getting out of bed.
They would break hyperspace in twenty minutes. Kelly decided that was enough time for a quick shower -- he'd taken one before they left, of course, but he still wasn't sure what he was going to say to his passenger after their confusing parting hours before. Dragging himself out of bed, Kelly walked into the refresher which consisted simply of a sink, a mirror, and a shower.
The confused Keller Dan-Dover decided he'd stay in the shower for a little bit longer than usual.

Miri sat in the cockpit, lips pursed thoughtfully as she watched the transition from hyperspace. The plasmic arcs whirling about the vessel faded away as they dropped out into realspace, the sudden deceleration resolving the array of thin white streaks into the distant pinpoints of stars. The jump had been right on target; the spiral-shaped planetoid of an ancient, long-dead worldship loomed ahead of them. At least a hundred kilometers in diameter, the enormous vessel had borne the Yuuzhan Vong on their desperate pilgrimage into the Promised Land and lived just long enough to see the People delivered safely to Zenoma Sekot. Miri reached out and pressed her palm against the viewscreen, as if doing so could somehow establish some sort of connection, but she could sense nothing - the massive relic was not merely dead, it was as absent from the Force as any biot of the Great War. She quirked a sad smile, pulling her hand away as she pushed her thoughts onto any other subject than something so alien and abhorrent as the Force-absent wartime People.
Miri didn't remember much after walking into her room last night, but didn't know if that was due to alcohol or sleep - or if her remembering Kelly coming to see her last night was a really, really vivid dream or if they'd really . . . her cheeks colored when she heard him stepping out of his room. It might have been a dream - but what if? It wasn't like it really meant much, right? Well, it meant a lot to her. Miri shifted uncomfortably in her seat, feeling incredibly awkward, but she had to know. She turned around and looked back down the corvette's central corridor. "Good morning!" she called out cheerily. "Sleep well? And, um, alone?"

Judging by Miri's comment as he walked into the cockpit, Kelly deduced that what she said last night was in fact genuine. It sounded to him like a taunt for not accepting her invitation, and he generally shrugged it off, taking his usual seat at the captain's console. It was another thing he hadn't expected her to say, but at this point, not much would surprise him.
"So um.. you really surprised me last night, Mir. I didn't think you were that kind of girl." Kelly paused to clear his throat and adjust the pitch of the ship slightly. His eyes, apparently glued to his console, didn't make contact with Miri's nor look out the viewscreen at their destination.
"Yeah, uh, I'm just not that kind of guy. I hope you're not angry or anything, uh.. it's just how I was raised. It wouldn't have been right."
It didn't occur to him, at all, that the alcohol Miri drank might have been the fuel behind her words the night before. If he had, he'd probably be laughing at the whole situation instead of being so serious about it.

Miri's eyes widened and her cheeks colored. "Oh dear," she said in a small voice as she slumped down in her chair, wishing she'd learned that really neat trick of vanishing into the ground. That would be handy right now.
So they hadn't? She didn't know whether to be relieved or not. Miri bit her lip, trying to figure out what had actually happened and what she'd just thought had happened. Nothing, she decided, and he'd been a perfect gentleman while she'd acted like a . . . well, that kind of girl. The irony of the situation being she was about as far from that sort as was possible while still having a pulse - she still didn't know why she said what she had. Sure, Kelly was good-looking, but he was so insensitive and self-centered - even if he was handsome, funny, and a great cook.
Well, he at least tried to be funny, and he was at least a decent cook. Everything else was just stupid biochemistry. Miri took a deep breath to try and center herself. She could tell she'd spent way too much time away from the Jedi if her emotions were going to get the better of her so easily.
Miri looked at him and forced a smile. "I'm, um, I'm sorry, Keller. I had a little more to drink than I probably should have, but that's not an excuse. I shouldn't have . . . y'know, made you feel uncomfortable like that. I'm, um, I hope you're not mad at me."

"So you were, uh, just drunk? That's all?"
Kelly smiled, and it then evolved into a slight chuckle. That explained a lot, and he sighed of approved relief when he heard it. It certainly cleared up his conscience, but there was one brief question that permeated his thoughts before he pushed it away.. what if they had?
"No harm done, I guess. And I should probably apologize, too - when we were talking yesterday, I didn't mean to cut it off so abruptly. Maybe I thought you didn't wanna talk about it anymore, or maybe I didn't.. I don't really know, but I didn't mean to be so .. y'know. S'pose, uh, you just have that sort of effect on me -- that I get mixed up easily. Like last night.
"So are we even?" Kelly smiled warmly; the friendly glow in his brown eyes had returned.

"Not that drunk," Miri said stiffly. She'd been a little buzzed, but nowhere near enough to plead inebriation. She couldn't in good conscience blame the drink. "I wasn't trying to invite you to, you know, anything like that. I just wanted to talk last night, maybe . . . well, never mind." She waved dismissively, trying not to get indignant over him making that assumption. Not that she didn't find him attractive - at least physically - but she was going to need a lot more alcohol in her to put out for him. He just reminded her of how he'd been such a jerk, too, even if he was apologizing for it a day later after she'd apologized. Miri could see why the Jedi discouraged relationships - they made things so complicated. Besides, she wasn't that bad-looking and she was nice enough - what would have been so bad about it if she had been inviting him over for 'relations'? It wasn't like they were complete strangers or anything like that. Miri looked at Keller, not smiling but not precisely frowning either. "I did want to talk about it. I can't imagine why I'd want to talk about my father trying to kill me with you. So I suppose that yes, we are 'even,'" she replied frostily. She looked back out at the world-ship before them, very much wanting to change the subject. She was being a bitch, and she knew it. "Oh, it's still spinning - I bet it has at least partial gravity," she said, her tone warming as she focused on the mission. "You should find some hangars your ship will fit in along the ventral ridges of the spirals, I think. If we're lucky, it lost atmospheric containment early on, before most of the biots had a chance to decay. This ship dates back to the Great War, so it and everything on it are absent from the Force. We need some samples to help our research on why they're voids - and how they later returned to the Force. I think it'll be useful to understand and restore severed Force connections."Miri is the queen of mixed signals. I think she's turning out to be my first tsundere character.

She sure knows how to bait and switch a guy.. damn!
"Vosk zar fem'hur," Kelly muttered, swiveling his chair back to his console. It was a Palawan dialect, spoken by his mother's tribe. Only a handful of people in the galaxy, outside of the Followers themselves, knew how to speak their languages.. but one thing was for certain: it had something to do with Miri Dakaar. He turned his attention back to flying the Justiciar, pulling back on his yoke with the slightest tug, to avoid a probable three-minutes-from-now collision with the Vong ship's leftmost hull bank.
"It's unlike anything I've seen before," he observed while directing the corvette into one of the 'hangars'. It was a smooth landing, compared to some others he'd had to make while on missions with SpecForce. "It's hard to believe you lived in something like this for the past couple months."
The boarding ramp dropped and Kelly was the first to step out, his DL-44 fitted comfortably in a shoulder holster and his lightsaber hanging from his belt.
