"It has atmosphere," Miri remarked as they stepped out onto the bleached coral floor of the hangar. She had foregone any sort of blaster, instead holding her tsaisaber in-hand as she disembarked the craft. They had, of course, verified both its presence and breathability before they exited Kelly's corvette, but it was still amazing to her. Yuuzhan Vong ships couldn't maintain atmosphere when they were dead.
The only logical conclusion was that the ship was not dead, another impossibility given its age. The ship looked dead, too. The yorik coral was bleached, the majority of the biots little more than rotten, shriveled meat clinging to the rocky hull. Miri had no doubt that if she were to take off her breath mask, it would reek of death and decay.
So what was holding in the air?
She frowned back at the hangar entrance, then groaned. "Deadtech," she said, pronouncing the word almost like a curse. "Look, Keller - someone installed containment field projectors. This site's contaminated."

"Someone. Who would go to the trouble?" he inquired, following Miri's path through the hangar. He commed into his co-pilot, the astromech droid R4-C4, giving the command to execute a full-scale sweep of the vongship for life forms and abnormal power readings. A quick skimming before they went onboard showed nothing of either, but it was a large ship, and the Justicair's immediate sensory abilities were limited due to the modifications Kelly had made to the craft.
"You wanna split up? If R4 finds anything, we can investigate things individually."

Miri looked at Keller like he was an idiot, facing him and putting her hands on her hips in a perfect caricature of feminine indignation. "Just because I'm blonde doesn't mean I'm dumb," she replied. "I'm not about to go wandering around an unknown derelict by myself."
Miri turned and walked down the center of the hangar, motioning for Keller to follow her. "World-ships are classified as historical sites," she said. "They're protected cultural artifacts. Ones this old, they've got extinct bioweapons that the Sekot Accords outlawed . . . and whenever there's something illegal, someone will want it." She frowned thoughtfully as she looked out at the dead, mummified ship's expansive hangar bays. It was like being in an enormous cave, lit only by the Justiciar's running lights. "Some of those might well be Yuuzhan Vong renegades," she said, thinking of Urir Jamaane and his traditionalist ilk.

"But you're not blonde, remember?" Kelly retorted through a smirk on his lips, following her to the center of the hangar. Moments later, he heard Arfour's technobabble coming through his earpiece, which he pressed a finger to to raise the volume.
"Seems your blonde wisdom's more reliable than one might think, Mir.." Keller continued, his tone and facial features gradually transforming from those of jestery* to those of genuine concern.
"Arfour's reading life on the lower levels -- no specific numbers, but.. there's definitely someone else on this boat. If they know we've landed, we might be having some company."
*New word yo!

"I'm certainly not a redhead." Miri sniffed. She didn't know why he wanted the droid's confirmation - it was obvious that someone else was in the world-ship.
"Well," she said as she plucked her odd living lightsaber off its customary position on her neck, the wormlike thing straightening out her grasp, "Let's go find out who they are and what they're doing." With her free hand, she unbuckled one of her pouches and drew out a power lamp. Miri clicked it on, sending a brilliant beam of white light to pierce the darkness and illuminate a small patch of the far wall. "Ladies first?" she asked, looking back at Keller with a cocky grin just as something flitted across the wall, too fast to identify but certainly not human.
