SKILLS:
- Jan is a skilled warrior, a worthy heir of the Mandalorian tradition. She is adept at fighting with blasters and slugthrowers alike, and is an expert shot. She learned to shoot without optics, and even without HUD-assisted targeting and rangefinder scopes is an expert marksman.
- Jan is skilled at Teräs Käsi, a martial art used to counter lightsaber-wielding Force-users, and at Jakelian Knife-Fighting using a beskad. Being a woman is no handicap; she can take on men twice her weight and beat them.
- Jannsica is a decent pilot, good at flying speeders, starfighters and space transports alike, and can disassemble and reassemble an engine with chopsticks. She doesn't really broadcast it, but Jan is a real grease-monkey if given half a chance.
- Jannsica speaks Mando'a, Huttese, and some Basic - more Basic than she lets on, but she is less than fluent in the language and speaks it with a distinct accent. Jan is literate in Mando'a and Huttese, while being barely so in Basic.
APPEARANCE
Jannsica has brown hair and light skin. Her hair is long, down to about her upper back if she wore it loose, but she generally keeps it tied up in a bun, ponytail, or a braid. She has almond-shaped blue eyes and fine, almost childlike features. Jannsica has a faint scar from where a guard caught her in the face with a vibroblade during a raid. The wound never healed right, resulting in a thin line of shiny white scar tissue running diagonally down from brow to cheek. Where most women would be ashamed of a disfiguring mark, a Mandalorian bears it with pride . . . usually. When she's with Haakon, Jan conceals the scar with make-up - she knows he doesn't approve of her former career as a pirate, and doesn't truly understand that her pride in the scar is not about the why of the battle - it's about the battle itself.Jannsica Jotano stands 5'7" and weighs about 140 lb (169 cm and 64 kg), slightly above average height for a woman. She has a toned, athletic figure thanks to regular workouts, but has to watch her diet carefully as she's prone to weight gain.
Jan commonly wears her suit of white, black, and dark blue Mandalorian battle armor. Her crushgaunts belonged to her father, the helmet her mother, and the boots her aunt, but the rest of the armor is new to Jan. Normally she would have inherited Jongi's kama and pauldron as well, but they fit Haakon better anyways. Her armor is close-fitting; even a casual observer can tell she's female when she's wearing her armor, and it doesn't help that she couldn't afford to fully outfit herself. It consists of a black body glove worn under white Mandalorian iron plating. There are also plates affixed to her boots protecting her shins, but the lower body is otherwise devoid of plating. She has a utility belt around her waist and no kama. Jan keeps her pistol in a holster strapped to her right thigh.
PERSONALITY
Jannsica is a proud, fierce woman. She dislikes being told what to do, and won't stand any insults to her own or her clan's honor - especially considering she's a former pirate. Jan is quick to quarrel and slow to forgive, though she has more patience for outsiders who don't know what they're doing than she does for Mando'ade who should. She believes that might makes right, an attitude in conflict with the more moralistic nature of her fiancée and her own latent morality. Jan has found herself questioning much of what she took as natural law after meeting Haakon.Though by tradition her father Jongi is dead, outcast and dar'manda, Jan still has difficulty reconciling the man who raised her with the pirate she helped overthrow. She regrets having left him alive, and didn't like Haakon's reasoning. She loves him, but her fiancée can be too gentle sometimes. Jan refuses to admit that's one of the things she likes about him.
Jannsica doesn't speak Basic, which is not to be confused with can't speak Basic. She's fluent and literate in both Huttese and Mando'a. Her heritage shows; she has a strong Mando accent in either language. Jan taught Haakon Mando'a during his captivity, at first to ensure the stupid slave wouldn't mess up even the simplest of directions, but later because she found she enjoyed his company.
BIOGRAPHY
Jannsica Jotano was born the eldest of the twin daughters of Jongi Jotano - she's the oldest by six minutes. Her father was the head of a band of raiders who preyed on travelers in the Outer Rim. They could only loosely be termed Mandalorians, for though they kept the trappings of the great armies of old they had precious little honor. Jan's mother died when she was thirteen, the victim of a raid gone bad. That event was the start of Jan's dislike of piracy and her rejection of being a pirate, despite having been raised to the attitude that only those who could fight and kill to have something deserved to keep it. At the time, however, it served only to harden Jannsica's heart against the plights of others - and cost Jan the one real friend she'd had as a girl.
Though Jan was very close to her twin sister, Rika, their mother's death drove a wedge between the girls. Rika ran away from home and fled the clan when they were sixteen, and in the seven years since Jan has heard only passing mention and vague rumors that her sister was alive. Her pride has kept her from seeking Rika out, however, and instead Jan threw herself into fighting, drinking, partying; anything to keep her mind off the pain. She watched her father degenerate into a brute, but remained with him even into adulthood out of filial loyalty.
An over-ambitious attack on a pair of Jedi saw dozens of her clansmen killed, a death toll too great for the Jotanos to bear. The one bright point was they had captured the fierce young apprentice, a tall, handsome man named Haakon Kin-Kari. Jan soon began to monopolize the captive's time, teaching him what she could of the way of the Mandalorians - starting with the language. She'd been attracted to him from the start, especially the way he remained defiant yet complied with whatever was asked of him. She found the way he almost seemed as if he were in command quite fascinating. Jan didn't realize that he was having as much an influence as she was with his questions, at least not until he asked her why she went along with what she knew to be wrong - why she remained with her father and fought alongside him as a slaver and pirate. Though Jan's immediate reaction was fury, after she stormed off she realized Haakon was right.
In a single night of fighting and death, Aliit Jotano purged itself of Jongi Jotano's followers. Though greatly reduced in numbers, those who remained in Jan's clan were true followers of the Mando'ade rather than dishonorable raiders. She freed all of their captives and inducted many of them into the clan - including Haakon. She gave him a ship and let him go to do as he wished, free as any other member of the clan. Haakon left to finish his Jedi training, but not before asking Jannsica to marry him.
No sooner had Jannsica bid her fiancée goodbye left than the Darasuum Confederation began its expansionist campaigns. Jan, wary of a group so unpleasantly reminiscent of her father, was one of the first to resist and participated in a handful of the losing battles against the Dar'mane. Aliit Jotano, though barely numbering in the double digits, resource-poor and with honor so tainted that they were unwelcome even on their homeworld, were among the first to enlist under Cuyan's banner.
GEAR
- EE-3 carbine rifle: Jannsica's blaster is customized with several components of Mandalorian make, bearing an oversized power chamber and thus producing blasts comparable with a heavy rifle or light cannon. She generally wields the blaster one-handed like a pistol, as it is a rather small weapon. The EE-3 has a maximum range of about one hundred and sixty meters, accurate out to about eighty meters. It draws fifty blasts from a power pack.
- Mandalorian Battle Armor: Jannsica's battle armor is a black body glove beneath form-fitting white plating. Her armor is of traditional make, but rather sparing due to her lack of funds and resources.
- Armor Plates: The armor plate is beskar alloy; twenty-five percent beskar, two percent ciridium, eight percent carbon, and the rest of the alloy is high-grade durasteel. The armor is resistant to very nearly every weapon type in existence. The armor plating is light, rated to resist about three or four pistol shots to the torso and a couple of shots to a plate on the limb, or half as many rifle shots.
- Gorget: This traditional neck armor protects the Mandalorian from being decapitated - including resisting a lightsaber's blade. It is the only component on Jannsica's armor made from pure beskar.
- Helmet: The helmet's sensor package includes a MFTAS that provide a targeting assistance program by painting target reticules on the HUD when linked with compatible weapons, multi-spectrum imagers, and the ability to see through smoke, darkness, and other low-vis conditions. The helmet also has a rangefinder built onto an extendable arm, providing additional targeting data for long-ranged shots.
The helmet also has advanced breath filters and a built-in comlink with encryption and multi-band communication capabilities. It also has automatic polarizing and anti-flash lenses that protect against intense glare and sonic filters that protect against intense and loud sounds. - Body Glove: The body glove is made of double-layered armorweave impregnated with Mandalorian iron fibers. Rarely so high-tech as their Imperial equivalents, the heavy Mandalorian body gloves provide protection against projectile and energy weapons alike at the expense of weight. However, the body glove alone is rated about as highly as most blast armors, being rated against a couple shots from a pistol and resistant to lightsabers.
The body glove can be sealed against toxic atmosphere, biological attack, and vacuum, but does not provide protection against the more extreme environmental conditions. - Power Supply: Jannsica's armor has a small fusion bottle on the backplate, a torus-shaped reactor that produces more than enough power for whatever the Mando's weapon needs. The power supply has several connectors located throughout the suit, most notably to the helmet, gauntlets, back, and abdomen. The abdominal plugs connect to rechargers on her belt, while the other connectors plug into her combat gloves, helmet package, and jetpack.
- Crushgaunts: A pair of beskar gauntlets made of a reactive fabric that exponentially enhances Jan's hand-arm strength, they are difficult to destroy but grant such strength she is able to crush bone, metal, or other material with relative ease - as well as easily block a lightsaber's blade due to the unique properties of the micronized Mandalorian iron.
- Vibro-Knucklers: Jannsica has a trio of metal studs on each knuckle-plate, the plate concealing a vibration generator that, when she clenches her fists just so, turns those spikes into lethal weapons capable of rending flesh and punching through steel. They are an alloy of Devaronian blood-poison, beskar, and durasteel. The spikes hold a keen point and are sharpened into serrated, knife-like blades not unlike the teeth of a carnosaur, but even a scratch with them is excruciatingly painful thanks to the blood-poison.
- Beskad: A 45-cm saber made of pure beskar, this short blade most closely resembles a machete. Jannsica wears her saber strapped to the back of her belt for a horizontal draw.
- Jetpack: Jan has a combination repulsorlift-jet flight pack. It has a single jet thruster running along the spine, two maneuvering thrusters located just behind the shoulders, and a quartet of small repulser units with two to either side of the thruster. The thrusters draw from solid fuel stored inside the pack, and are able to provide about thirty minutes' worth of thrust. The repulsers have built-in energy cells that provide about ninety minutes of lift, but also link up to the suit's power supply for longer flights.
- Utility Belt: Jannsica's belt has a three-day supply of food capsules, a medic, a tool kit, a spare power pack, a spare energy cell, a glow rod, and a comlink. It also has a pair of power pack rechargers connected to her armor's power supply.
SHIP
Jannsica flies a SS-54 light freighter, an older model of gunship that predates the Galactic Civil War.
