The Jedi of Dantooine

The Dantooine Academy is the first temple nearly every Jedi trains in. The campus is home to thousands of students ranging in age from early teens to adulthood. For most, it remains their home until they are ready to begin their trials; only those Jedi who show a propensity for aggression or for particular political acumen are sent to study at other academies.

The Dantooine Academy uniform is the classic tan and brown robes of the Old Order, though uniform standards loosen up once the apprentice is promoted to senior apprentice and disappear altogether upon knighthood.

The Dantooine Academy was established in the third century ABY, expanding on a local university that had been donated to the Jedi Order by a cash-strapped planetary governor. Under the guidance of the Jedi Council, the Dantooine Academy has grown into one of the most prestigious universities for Jedi and non-Jedi alike. Their academic curriculum is among the best in the galaxy, and the Jedi maintain scholarships for Force-sensitive and non-sensitive students alike.

The Dantooine Academy is a sprawling campus covering about ten acres surrounded by three thousand acres of wooded prairie, lakes, meadows, and a forest. The grounds include the old ruins of the pre-Purge Jedi enclave, recently re-discovered and purchased under Gi Do Mask's tenancy, and many archaeological digs occur there. It has a small spaceport suited for handling shuttles and cargo shipments, and underground runs a mag-lev tram that provides students transport to the Academy's buildings. Just outside campus is a small town that has grown up around providing various services to the Jedi students. The town is accessible by foot or by speeder, being only about two kilometers from the nearest tram station. The Dantooine Academy is, like all Jedi Temples, rather well-defended thanks to a deflector shield generator that protects the entire campus as well as by virtue of the fact that the Antarian Rangers maintain a security force in and around the campus grounds.

The Dantooine Academy is led by a Jedi Council as well as a school board. While the Council has about a dozen Jedi Masters sitting on it, the school board is a mix of Jedi scholars as well as more mundane professors. The current Headmaster of the Dantooine Academy is Master Gi Do Mask, a Naboo nobleman. While he has a well-deserved reputation as a scholar and a gentleman, he is also a master of Makashi and able to give Lexi Shan of the Temple Academy a run for her money in saber duels.

Apprentices studying at the Dantooine Academy learn a well-rounded assortment of subjects ranging from math and science to history and arts, with learning the ways of the Force and the philosophies of the Jedi being just a part of their curriculum. Those who remain as seniors and Knights study the Force more in-depth, as well as pursuing the sciences, arts, or other academic subjects. While rarely skilled fighters, Jedi of Dantooine more than make up for it in other areas.

The Temple Academy's Headmaster's Trials are traditionally in search of knowledge, typically through recovering lost lore, uncovering something new, exploring star systems, archaeological digs, and the like. While rarely life-threatening or even that risky, they do require cleverness and a bit of patience.
