Southwest of the Dantooine Academy Dantooine, Raioballo Sector Haakon Kin-Kari stood in a clearing in the woodlands surrounding the Dantooine Academy, arms folded across his chest. The tall, broad-shouldered man was dressed in the robes of his home Academy, Yavin IV; black and brown. He wore a lightsaber on his belt, with a pistol holstered opposite it; Haakon made no bones about being a fighter, though at least he wasn't wearing his Mandalorian armor.
Haakon was in that nebulous area between apprentice and Knight, a well-trained senior apprentice who was too experienced to justify returning to the basic training but not quite ready for the Trials. His previous master had left the Order after Haakon was abducted by Mandalorians, and thus the Jedi Council had him remain on Dantooine while they sought out a new instructor for him. Given his experience and training, the Council had tasked him with training certain other students to earn his keep.
While Haakon may not have been wearing his beskar'gam, the Mandalorians standing with him most certainly were. The woman in white-and-blue armor looked around, then looked up at Haakon. Jannsica Jotano, she was both the leader of the sadly-reduced Aliit Jotano and Haakon's fiancee. "Your little Jedi pries is late, Hawk," she said in Huttese.
"Of course," Haakon agreed with a smile, speaking the same language. Though his native tongue was Basic, Jan barely spoke more than a few words of the language - but both were fluent in Huttese. He could tell Jan was testy; she did not approve of his Jedi affiliations, and she liked having found him simply marking time on the most peaceful of Jedi worlds even less. "Even so-"
"We'll disappear for a bit," Jan said with a nod, "then we show up later." She patted her blaster pistol, and Haakon could just tell she had a malevolent smile on her face beneath that T-shaped visor. He chuckled, eyes lingering on her as she walked off with the other Jotano warriors. Even in her Mandalorian iron and armorweave, she still had a-
A twig breaking nearby snapped Haakon's attention to other matters. He looked over to the other side of the clearing and waited for Gracelyn Maier to appear. He knew the geography and foliage would conceal the Mandalorians from her sight, that was no problem - but before they got their chance at her, he was going to make sure she wasn't totally out of her depth first.post

~One day prior~
“Ma’am we have the information on your Jedi.â€
The voice was that of the Maier family informant. At the request of Graceyln’s father the informant gathered all the dirt on the teen’s new Jedi trainer, Haakon Kin-Kari. The Maier patriarch (being one who seemed to operate under constant paranoia) insisted on the probing into Haakon’s life prior to Gracelyn’s first day of training.
While somewhat listening to the report from the Maier family informant, Gracelyn’s mind would momentarily drift off to the words of the Jedi Order’s representative- “He is one of our best senior apprentices. We know you two will be a good fit based on your goals and background. You will do well to capitalize on the time you have with Haakon.â€
Though the teen believed the information the Jedi Order’s representative gave her on Haakon, she continued to give a listening ear to the words of her family’s informant.
â€Don't be surprised if he shows up in his beskar'gam. He was, for a time, enslaved by the Mandalorians. He eventually got his freedom, helped with an uprising against the Jongi Jotano, and as you now know joined the Jedi Order....But fear not, as he is from the aristocratic stock, like you. It’s his ‘woman’ you have to be careful of….â€
Momentarily pausing, the informant will clear his throat and then complete his findings. “….and that’s all I’ve got on Haakon, Ma’am. I’ll keep you posted if something surfaces.â€
In her usual polite, but annoying teen tone, Gracelyn thanked the man and then ended the call.
---------------------------------------
Beeeeep… beeeeeeeep…beeeeeeeeeep.
The noise emanating from Gracelyn’s inner chamber shook her to the core. Though she knew her first day of training was at hand, she simply wanted to rest.
Beeeeep….beeeeeeeeep…beeeeeep.
Yet another alarm resonated within the chamber. Huffing and puffing, the teen finally woke up, turned the annoying alarms off and proceeded to dress. Firstly, a long trip to the refresher, and then the dreaded trip to adorn her body in the Order’s unflattering tan/cream robe. Thankfully, the Jedi Order agreed to fulfill young Maier’s request. The request was her own private chamber, complete with a refresher, dinning, and private living space. All bare minimum for the Kaalian aristocrat who was used to far fancier and private servants.
Finally dressed and ready for first day of training, young Maier would leave and find her way to the designated meeting area. Dantooine, unlike Kaal was a planet covered in grasslands, rivers and lakes. Kaal on the other hand had beautiful blue ocean, picturesque scenes- really, a tropical resort world to behold!
Approaching the designated meeting area, Maier couldn’t help but smile. Unlike her resent lucid dreams, Haakon did not show up in his beskar'gam. “He’s playing the part of the trainer quite well.†The teen thought silently to herself, as she finally reached inches away from Haakon. Gently bowing, Gracelyn quickly offered the customary Jedi greeting and then retreated back a bit.
“Your instructions said to meet-“
She paused to look down at her gold chrono. Unlike her initial words offered in Basic, Maier would continue speaking. Only this time in Huttese.
“….right about now, thus I’m actually on time. Thank you.â€
With that, Gracelyn would give a soft chuckle, and then move her hands down by her side. Her dominant hand, would find its way down by her gear as she awaited Haakon’s response. Internally, however, the teen was literally analyzing her surroundings. Though Haakon was the only being present, something told Maier otherwise. The tell tale signs of several other foot prints on the slightly wooded area could only reaffirm her suspicions….

Haakon returned the bow, then straightened to look the younger Jedi over, sizing her up. It was worse than he feared; she was plainly soft. From what he understood, she was a latecomer to the Jedi Order and had been 'home-schooled' by her ex-Jedi mother. Spoiled rotten, self-centered if not quite selfish, prissy, and inordinately willful. Pretty enough, but she didn't hold a candle to Jan. Admittedly, Haakon might have been a bit biased on that last point. Master Gi Do Mask had asked him to encourage her to a certain higher level of maturity and responsibility in their training. "I speak Basic just fine," Haakon replied with a fairly flat Corellian accent, frowning slightly at her speaking Huttese. The Jedi knew about Jan, of course. What kind of statement was she trying to make? "Natively, actually.
"Your chrono's off. You were supposed to be here four minutes ago." Haakon shook his head slowly. "Being three klicks from the Academy's no excuse." He fixed her with a level, unamused stare, plainly unimpressed with her. "Well now. Tell me what you know."Where'd she pick up the woodscraft to be able to spot some footprints left by trained fighters from across a clearing?

The sheer look on Haakons face spoke volumes. Maier gathered the man was not slightly amused, nor was he impressed with her.
"Look, I get it. You're not impressed, but I'm not here to impress anyone. My singular purpose is to learn. Besides, it appears Master Gi Do Mask was the one behind this match up, so you can take it up to him."
The teen responded in Basic. Not one to be misjudged, Maier gave Haakon her piece of mind, and then promptly moved on to answer the her trainer's question at hand.
"Insofar as what I know that's a loaded question. Since you failed to be specific I'm going to assume you meant what I know about Jedi related skill set."
"Let's see-" Gracelyn proceeded to wax eloquence. Simultaneously speaking, the teen removed her chrono from her left wrist and then changed the time.
"Basic Force powers. You have my mother to thank and or blame for that... In the area of Control, I can perform basic healing. In the area of Sense, I'm fairly adept with Force Sight, however Alter is one area where I am lacking. Last but not least, Force Push/Pull/Jump, are second nature. "
Hoping to actually prove her skill set in some of the aforesaid knowledge, Maier quickly summoned a six foot fallen tree trunk by her side.
"As I mentioned, Master Haakon, when it comes to Alter and the likes, I'm but a beginner. So ya, that's part of what I know."

"Just Haakon," he corrected. He wasn't even a Knight, much less a Master. "So you're not too far behind where you should be . . . alright." He reached back to his belt and drew his lightsaber, igniting its meter-long deep blue blade with a snap-hiss. The saber was a little short for him, only about ninety centimeters; it had belonged to his former Jedi teacher, Nimbla Nim, who had been a petite Twi'lek rather than a big Human. "So what about the lightsaber?"

"Haakon it is."
With that, Gracelyn pulled out her own blade. Controlled by her dominant hand (left hand) Maier swiftly clicked on the hilt of the blade. Soon, her yellow lightsaber hissed to life, and the teen plunged her blade through the dead tree trunk by her side. The same one she'd earlier summoned through the Force.
"Mom and Dad taught me a few basic moves. Nothing major."

"Show me." Haakon said before sweeping his lightsaber up into a low guard, holding the hilt in a two-handed grip at about waist level and the blade vertical. He slid his feet into a fighting stance, about shoulder's-width apart. Haakon smirked confidently, plainly ready to be not impressed in even the slightest with Gracelyn's saber skill. "Attack."

"Show me" The elder Jedi said.
Soon, a distinct sweeping move of Haakon's weapon would permeate the wooded location. Instinctively, Gracelyn pivoted back, away from Haakon's reach. Her blade still in hand, the teen's eyes would follow each move of Haakon's lightsaber while simultaneously moving into a combat ready position akin to Ataru. Gracelyn's dominant foot would be held back, with her yellow blade in a vertical parry position on the dominant side.
"Posture my dear is everything....Eyes on the blade dear....Loosen your grip a bit." The words of Gracelyn's father would saturate the teen's thoughts- though only monetarily.
Haakon's short instruction would soon snap the teen back into the moment. "Attack."
Maier's first instinct was to do her trainer's biding. However, the Kaalian teen's thoughts would dictate otherwise.
"No! Most certainly not. Master. I mean Haakon"
Gracelyn knew her verbal response would probably result in some sort of punishment. She can handle it. However, the potential physical damage, considering Haakon's sheer size, would be detrimental to the Kaalian aristocrat's fine features.
"Your seize and not to mention extensive experience alone is not comparable to my lowly combat background. So no. I will not attack."

"Cowardice," Haakon observed evenly. He noted her sloppy Ataru stance, her tense posture, her skittish body language. She wasn't kidding when she complained of her soft background handicapping her. He made the mental note to have Jan teach her a thing or two - Jannsica was about Maier's size, and was lethal in hand-to-hand with that Mando saber of hers. "Fear is the path to the Dark Side. A Jedi must not let fear rule her, must not be afraid to do what is necessary - and in this day and age, with the Sith returned and growing more powerful, we can ill-afford a Knight who can't - or won't - protect herself. If you can't protect yourself, Gracelyn, then you can't protect anyone else and fail in the most basic duties of the Jedi Knights.
"A Jedi seeks in all things to conquer her ignorance. You don't know how to attack - not yet." Haakon took a step towards Gracelyn, closing into range and raising his lightsaber up at half-speed and pausing a moment before he brought it down with a slow slash towards her head. "So defend," he said calmly.

The expected tongue lash came in a form of insult.
"Cowardice"
Came the voice of Maier's trainer. Unlike the man's handsome physical attributes, the voice was akin to that of a mean, old ugly trainer. The kind Maier lamented she'd be paired up with.
As the insult reached her ears, the Kaalian aristocrat backed up, nearly stumbling on the tree trunk she'd earlier dived her blade into. Thankfully, the teen managed to not stumble! Seconds later, she stood tall. Her posture snapped into a perfect Jedi ready stance. Meanwhile Haakon was showcasing his oratory skills. This time the words were one of a concerned master- though slightly preachy.
The sun ceased shining, as the clouds covered the sky. A sign of perhaps pending shower. The thought of being outdoors, training in the rain not to mention pure dirt, and critters did not sound appealing to the aristocrat. Like a pry, Graclyn's eyes remained very much in tune with Haakon's every move. Thus she wasn't surprised when her trainer quickly transitioned from speaking into another attack.
As Haakon stepped towards the teen, she swiftly raised her blade upwards. Both of her hands held firmly to the hilt of her yellow lightsaber. Gracelyn quickly ducked under Haakon's raised blade when he finally closed in on her. Haakon's slash to Maier's head was thus missed. Quickly raising up from the duck, the teen's blade would cross with that of her trainer's blade.
