"No, no," Haakon shook his head as he broke contact, lifting his blade up from her ridiculous, over-complicated block. "That duck wouldn't work in a real fight, and for spit's sake don't attack my lightsaber, attack me - or hit the emitter, not the blade. I'm bigger, stronger, have better leverage and more reach - you're not going to win by meeting my strength with your weakness."Haakon took a step back, raising his lightsaber in the Ataru guard again. "When someone attacks like that," he said, "you block with a triangle-frame guard." He demonstrated, raising the lightsaber diagonally up to fend off an attack from above, first to the right and then to the left. "It pushes the enemy's lightsaber off the line of the attack - that's the important one here. You want to deflect my attacks, not block them." He knew a hanging guard was the more optimal here, but baby steps. "Now do that, and rotate in close to me so that you close in while deflecting my attack. You'll negate my advantage of reach, and get inside my optimum range - I won't be able to as effectively hack at you."Haakon raised his lightsaber into a high guard again as he stepped towards her, holding the glowing blue blade up above his head before he brought it down in another half-speed downward slash to the head. This link holds a good deal on swordplay. Because seriously, that move wouldn't work at all. You can't duck under a vertical slash. It's like trying to outrun a bullet - you're still on the line of attack, and it's going to move faster than you are. What you want is to get out of the line of attack.

She’d thought her moves were dead on. Come to find out, not only was her Ataru moves poor executed, but her body was directly in harm’s way. The exact opposite of her intentions! Haakon’s head shake showed his apparent disgrace and disappointment in the teen.
"No, no,"
Haakon protested. To which the aristocrat interjected, “Yes, yes. You asked me to defend, and I did. I defended my neck from your blade.â€
Inwardly, the teen was quite shaken to the core. She’d never had to defend herself, let alone anyone. Her parents made sure of that by giving her the best guards credits could afford around Kaal. Now a Jedi, well Maier has to rationally put to practice that which she’d studied in theory. As her trainer spoke, Gracelyn backed up, though her blade remained very much intact and in her left hand. Her prior fear of other guests – perhaps hiding in the area- returned….
When Haakon’s final instructions came, Maier stepped back into Jedi ready stances. Both hands rested on the hilt of her blade- though not to tight, just the right amount of pressure. When her trainer’s blue lightsaber was brought down, the teen Jedi raised her blade delivering a block vertical, diagonal and horizontal blows aimed at her trainer.
Simultaneously maneuvering her blade, Maier uttered- in the most unladylike tone/fashion. “This is a set isn’t it? Who else have you around these parts?â€

"I don't have anyone around these parts," Haakon answered. It was true, from a certain point of view - but Jan, on the other hand, had several people waiting. "Keep your mind on the here and now," he chided her as he stepped back from her horizontal swipes, then stepped in to give her a quick wrap shot that singed Maier's backside. She telegraphed her intent, and keeping him out at range was not going to win her this duel. "Be mindful of where you are and what you are doing. Devote any less attention and I'll- aww, hell."
A pair of canisters streaming milk-white smoke bounced off the ground nearby, spewing out clouds of thick smoke.
Jan smiled deviously beneath her helmet, pushing herself up off the ground and drawing her beskar saber from its sheath on the small of her back with the whisper of steel on leather. She sprinted out into the clearing, charging towards the teenaged Jedi girl under cover of the smoke.

"How can I keep my mind on the 'here and now' when I fear you're not being forthright with me!"
The Kaalian teen demanded. She wasn't an expect by any means, but the initial signs she gathered, upon arrival to the location, alluded to extra bodies.
"I'm no dumb blonde, Master, but I can sense something in the Force. Something-"
Before she would continue Haakon had already moved on. Unmoved by the light rain that was now showering the pair, the Jedi Knight moved in on the teen. Maier's back soon felt the distinguishable sting from Haakon's blade. A very audible scream soon followed, thus Haakon's latter words were drowned out.
With the pain emanating from her back, Gracelyn nearly felt paralyzed. Frozen in time, really. Her lighsaber, lazily dangling in her left hand. Hoping beyond hope that nothing else would go wrong, thick smoke suddenly filled the area- unhindered by the light rain...
As though on cue, a twenty something year old looking female charged out from the smoke, heading dead on to the teen Jedi. Dumbfounded and confused, Gracelyn quickly summoned the Force to her feet, and then Force Leaped unto the branch above her. Blade still in hand, and in pain, the teen Jedi observed the woman below her while screaming for her Master.

The white-armored Mandalorian skidded to a halt, crouching down to absorb the momentum, then sprung catlike up to bounce off the trunk of the tree before snatching at the branch Gracelyn took refuge on. She hauled herself up one-handed and turned to face the teen, brandishing her machete blade as she advanced on her slowly. Though her face was completely concealed behind her armor, she gave the impression of confidence, even arrogance, as she menaced the teenaged Jedi. Her whole body language more reminded of a vornskr closing in on its prey than the Jedi lightsaber instructors Gracelyn had encountered on Dantooine.
"You're on dangerous ground," she said in Huttese. "Especially with this rain, the moss and lichen is slick - and you're not wearing good boots." She smiled beneath her helmet, shifting her weight back a bit to invite an opening as she flourished her blade flashily. "But nice move."
Haakon watched from the ground, knowing full well what Jan was doing. He was going to have words with her about blowing their cover like that. He noted the other Mandos emerging from their cover, laughing and joking with each other in the Jotano clan's preferred Huttese. Most of them had dark armor, blue and black being the predominant colors; Jan stood out as starkly against them as against the wooded backdrop.
"Betting on Jan?" one of them asked in thickly-accented Basic, then nudged him with an armored elbow when he didn't get a reply. "Hawk?"
Haakon merely grunted in reply, not taking his eyes off the trainee - or his fiancee. He stood there, arms folded across his chest and expression stern. He, like Jannsica, wanted to see what the little Jedi princess was made of.

Her plea from Haakon went unheeded. Well, at least based on the Haakon's action/ lack thereof.
Now completely shook to the core, the Kaalian teen moved further and further away from her attacker, through the Force. With the flick of her bare hand, Maier summoned a rather large branch down to her attacker's head. Her goal was not to hurt her attacker, but to intercept Jan's movement up to the tree, create a stumbling block, and perhaps buy time to flea. And flea she did until the armored Mandalorian reached above the tree!
Armed with a machete in hand the woman spoke, in Huttese "You're on dangerous ground,"
To which Maier interjected, in Huttese, though her perfect Kaalian diction could not be missed. "Actually I'm on a tree, but that's besides the point"
Like the overly confident attacker, Jan pursued, pushing Maier's stamina to the max, though Maier made every effort to conceal her fear.
"Especially with this rain, the moss and lichen is slick - and you're not wearing good boots." "But nice move."
While Jan continued to speak, Maier - through the Force- propelled her body further above the tree. Her singular objective? To run away from her pursuer. Gracelyn didn't utter another word until she reached a good distance away from Jan.
'Who are you?" The Kaalian aristocrat finally demanded- in Hutese
"What do you want from me?" She added. This time in Basic!

Jan rolled her eyes as she drew her blaster pistol. It figured the little princess would take off running at the slightest threat of breaking a nail. She ducked under the clumsily hurled branch, thinking it was a genuine attack rather than a delaying tactic. Well, that was . . . endearing. Hurling something at her before running away was base cowardice, and that made Jan angry. The laughter from the ground below didn't help.
Jannsica didn't answer the Kaalian's questions, either the first in Huttese or the second babbled in a language she barely spoke. Well, if the little priss was going to turn tail and run, that was precisely where she was going to get shot. Jan lined the shot up and squeezed off a few quick blasts, cackling maniacally as she tracked the Jedi with a series of carefully placed near-misses before she suddenly lost her balance and fell. Jan's maniacal cackle turned into a rather undignified squawk as she dropped her blaster, scrabbling at the branch before she sank her beskad into it. While that temporarily arrested her fall, the beskar blade sank in too deep and cut through.
Jan let out a very loud and very profane oath as she fell.
"You planned that one out. I can tell," Hawk said in Huttese as he neatly caught her in his arms - or tried to, anyhow. He at least broke her fall, and the two wound up in a tangle on the ground together. He wisely said nothing of how she was trembling and clung to him before she realized her warriors were watching. It was a mark of their respect for her that they, too, did not mock her.
"Mmmaybe," Jan replied, taking off her helmet and standing up feet. "You didn't say she was a coward," Jan complained, wiping off her brow with the back of her hand. She frowned up at the treed Jedi. "You can come down now," she called in thickly-accented Basic. "I don't bite!"
"Well, I wouldn't say that," Haakon said in a low voice, nudging her with his elbow.
"I can hurt you," Jan laughed in Huttese.

"The Council will hear about this if I live to tell," Maier blurted in between the woman known as Jan's blasts.
Unbeknownst to the teen the her attacker was merely playing a trick ( a nasty one at that!)- on her. Try, she did, to dodge each blast aimed at her. Interestingly enough, none of the shots even came close to doing a damage, which made the teen wonder the sanity of her pursuer. Merely seconds after the missed blats, Maier's attacker was falling- albeit hysterically. At least that's what the prissy teen witnessed!
As Jan, and her weapon, descended to the ground, Maier thought about summoning the her weapon to her hand. However, she decided against it and quickly took flight the opposite direction. Hawk's shining knight to the rescue catch would be thus missed by the teen.
Moments later, the teen Jedi gracefully landed on the ground. Unlike her attacker, Gracelyn summoned the Force to aide her in her landing. She quickly turned her blade completely off and then proceeded to tuck it by her side gear.
"You didn't say she was a coward," Maier heard, at which point she rolled her eyes directly at her trainer.
"The worst training session I've ever encountered." Uttered the teen while yet keeping her distance away from Jan.
"The Council will hear about this."
