The Galactic Alliance was founded in the aftermath of the Yuuzhan Vong War, and despite trials and tribulations in the ensuing centuries has endured. Indeed, it has done better than the Empire. While the Empire declined into decadence and corruption, the Alliance grew wealthy and powerful with a high standard of living for nearly all member worlds. The planets retained a fair degree of autonomy and sovereignty in the Alliance, as opposed to the centralized and autocratic Empire. While the Senate is largely regarded as ineffectual, that's a feature, not a bug; the Chief of State and many of the senior senators have a policy that 'less is more' when it comes to governmental intervention.

While the Alliance's troopers and lent aid to the Alliance played a pivotal role, particularly in the latter stages of the war, their main contribution to the Imperial success was in the post-war reconstruction. In order to prevent the Sith from recovering faster and overrunning the Empire - and thus putting the Alliance in a precarious position - the Galactic Alliance enacted a policy to fund the Imperial recovery. The Alliance loaned credits and sent defensive fleets to rebuild and protect any Imperial or selected independent world that rejected Sith rule.

The Galactic Alliance has close ties with the Jedi Order and the Galactic Empire. The Alliance is in a de facto cold war against the Sith, but is officially at peace since the war ended in 518 ABY - sixteen years ago. The Alliance also has a warm relationship with the Hapans, and Hapan involvement in the war was contingent on Alliance commitment. Of all the galactic powers, the Alliance is the wealthiest, if not the largest, with the most powerful military. They are poised to establish themselves as a superpower and usher in a new era of peace, justice, and progress the likes of which the galaxy has not known in centuries.
