Description: The R-30 Iviin-class Interceptor is designed for speed. Easily one of the fastest starfighters in the galaxy, the entire ship is built around its powerful sublight engines. It embodies the definition of the interceptor. Extremely maneuverable and faster then its namesake, only the most skilled pilots can handle this craft, as it is all to easy to crash even when not at maximum speed. Every step has been taken to increase its speed. Its fuselage is made of the lightest composite available, and on-board systems are limited to decrease weight.
Powerful as well, it has maser cannons to kill and ion cannons to capture. Two concussion missiles give it standoff capability to hit-and-run larger targets. It's major weakness is its defenses. Its light shields can absorb only a few laser bolts, and its light armor is easily punched through. However, the ship moves so fast it can usually outrun most other starfighters, and that tracking computers on capital ships struggle to lock onto it. The cost of this speed is a relatively long profile, which was chosen over a wider ship. A relatively large space was needed to encompass the engine block and the power cells needed to fuel them, and a sleek, long design was favored for a small profile that would be advantageous in a dogfight.
Another weakness is its limited long range capability and anti-capital ship ability. Although outfitted with a Hyperdrive and some standoff capability, unsupported, the ship's pilot can quickly get into undesirable situations. Therefore the ship is confined to operating in proximity of a base or fleet, and typically conducts system wide operations at most.
One of its additional major advantages is an extremely fast hyperdrive, so that it can embark on short-range pursuits even through Hyperspace. The duration of such excursions are limited by its power cells (the ship has no reactor to cut down on weight).
Another of its feature is a slot behind the cockpit for an astromech droid. The droid can augment the navigation system and help control the ship and its systems, and also plot Hyperspace routes.
