These rules are just basic outlines to get us started; more will be developed as we go along.
Roleplaying on this site is conducted in the General RP forum, or if it's specific to a particular faction then it can be conducted in the appropriate faction forum or sub-forum. Out-of-Character conversation should be conducted either in an OOC thread in the appropriate forum or behind spoiler tags. You must have a character posted in the Character Bios forum in order to play with it.
Posting orders are optional, but when actions occur that involve other players be sure to give them the opportunity to react.
Keep things at about the PG-13 level. While flirting and the like is generally harmless (if done tastefully - and if the other RPer is game for it), overt sexual acts must be off-screen and not described.
There is no limit to the number of characters you can bring into an RP, but keep in mind that it's rarely entertaining to simply sit and watch someone else converse with themselves. Be considerate of your fellow players when bringing multiple characters into an RP.
On consideration for others, be sure to post within three days of the most recent post - one day is preferred. If you can't do that, let your fellow RPers know.
Generally speaking, when in a fight involving other players keep your actions to a single attack, movement, or other action that would take about six seconds to perform.
God-moding and power-gaming are strictly prohibited. The Force is not an excuse to do either.
God-moding is defined as having your character be effectively invincible to all attack regardless of whether or not he should be. You cannot simply ignore an opponent's attack, nor effortlessly deflect all of his efforts. Even precognition is not perfect, being able to at most provide a faulty second or so view ahead.
Power-gaming is in this sense directly forcing other people's characters to take actions. You cannot tell someone what their character does; you can only describe the attack/force and they decide how it affects their character.
This applies to a lesser extent with NPCs and monsters, particularly those NPCs who have bios written up.
Player-vs-player combat can be handled in one of two ways. Non-lethal combats may be adjudicated by the players involved; that is to say, they decide what happens to their character based on the opponent's attack. This can include fights where the characters intend to kill each other, but the players agree to avoid doing so.
Lethal combat, on the other hand, may be refereed by a staff member or a staff-appointed player. This referee must be a neutral third party, and he will inform the players of the efficacy of their attacks. In refereed fights, the two players will post what they attempt to do to their opponent, and the referee will inform them in his post of how effective the attacks and defenses were before telling them to switch order and continue. The referee will determine the outcome of the fight - casualties, injuries, equipment damage, and so forth.
If both players agree to waive the referee they may self-adjudicate in the same manner as non-lethal combats. Both players must agree to this in forum posts.
